Roll-Off Dumpster Rental in Atlanta and the Southeast

A roll-off is the open-top steel box you see on driveways and job sites. It arrives on a truck, rolls off onto steel wheels, and leaves the same way when it is full.

How a roll-off works

Roll-off dumpster rental is the standard way to get rid of a lot of debris at once in Atlanta and across the Southeast. The container is a steel box with an open top, a swing door at one end and rollers or wheels underneath. It travels on a hook-lift or cable truck. At your property, the driver tilts the truck bed and lets the container roll back onto the ground. When you call for pickup, the truck hooks it, winches it back up and hauls it to a landfill, transfer station or recycling yard.

Because the truck needs to tilt and slide, it needs room. Plan on a straight approach of roughly 60 feet, about 12 feet of width, and clear overhead space. That is why every city page on this site starts with placement.

Sizes in plain terms

  • 10 yard: about the volume of a pickup truck bed several times over. A bathroom, a garage cleanout, or heavy material like tile.
  • 20 yard: the most popular size for household projects. A kitchen remodel, a whole-house cleanout, most roofs.
  • 30 yard: big renovations, additions and larger roofs.
  • 40 yard: new construction and commercial work with plenty of light, bulky debris.

The sizes guide has typical dimensions and examples. When in doubt between two sizes, the bigger one usually costs less than a second haul, unless the material is heavy.

Weight matters more than space

Haulers price around weight as much as volume. Every container comes with an allowance in tons; go over and you pay per ton. Concrete, brick, dirt, roofing shingles and wet plaster are dense and hit that limit fast. For those, a 10 yard container filled partway is often the right answer. Tell the hauler exactly what is going in.

Where it can go

On your driveway or private lot, placement is usually up to you, and your HOA or landlord. On a street, curb lane or sidewalk, the city or state usually needs to approve it first. We name the office for each city on the Southeast permit guide.

FAQ

What people ask before they book

What is a roll-off dumpster?

An open-top rectangular steel container with wheels or rollers on one end. A hook-lift or cable truck tilts its bed and slides the container onto the ground, then pulls it back up when it is full.

What sizes are roll-off dumpsters?

The common sizes are 10, 20, 30 and 40 cubic yards. All are roughly 8 feet wide; length and wall height grow with the size. Some haulers also stock in-between sizes.

How much weight can a roll-off hold?

Each hauler sets a weight allowance per container, and road weight limits cap what the truck can carry. Heavy debris such as concrete, brick and soil fills the weight limit long before the box is full. Ask for the allowance in tons.

Will the truck damage my driveway?

A loaded container concentrates weight on its rails and wheels. Ask the hauler to put boards under it, especially on pavers, decorative concrete or older slabs.
