Typical dumpster rental prices, with the source

People ask what a dumpster rental costs before anything else, so here is a straight answer with its source. The figures below come from Fixr's published cost data ("How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?", last updated January 2025), which we checked in October 2026. They are national market ranges. They are not our rates and not a quote. Southeast prices fall inside them, with larger metros like Atlanta, Charlotte and Nashville and areas with higher landfill fees tending toward the upper end.

Item Typical market range (Fixr cost data, 2025)
National average rental $200–$550 per week (about $380 for a 10 yard residential rental)
10 yard container $250–$400 per week
20 yard container $275–$450 per week
30 yard container $300–$750 per week
40 yard container $350–$900 per week
10 yard, daily rate $25–$80 per day
Monthly rental $500–$1,000 per month
Extra days after the first week $5–$10 per day
Overloaded (overweight) container $40–$100 per ton

What moves the price

Size

Bigger containers cost more, but not in proportion. A 20 yard holds twice what a 10 yard does, yet the ranges above overlap heavily. If you are between sizes and your debris is light, the bigger box is often better value than a second haul.

Weight and material

Every container comes with a tonnage allowance. Go over and you pay per ton, which is where the $40–$100 per ton overage range applies. Dense material such as concrete, brick, tile, dirt, roofing shingles and wet plaster reaches the limit quickly. Separating heavy debris into its own smaller container is a common way to control cost. The pricing factors guide explains this in more detail.

Rental period

Most quotes include a base period, often around a week. Extra days typically add $5–$10 each in the source data. Longer jobs move to monthly terms. If you are not sure how long you need, ask for the daily extension rate up front.

Landfill and disposal fees

Haulers pay to dump what you load, and those fees are passed on in the price or as a line item. Fees vary between facilities and regions, which is one reason a Charlotte quote and a Montgomery quote for the same size can differ.

Placement and permits

A container on your driveway needs no city approval in most places. A container on the street usually does, and where a permit is required the source puts it at $10–$100 per week. We do not quote city-specific permit fees because they change; ask the city. Our permit guide names the office for each of our sixteen cities.

Access and distance

Steep mountain roads in Chattanooga, narrow lanes in Savannah and long drives from a hauler's yard all add time, and time is money for a truck. Mention access issues on the call so the quote reflects them.

Ranges are a starting point

Use the table to sanity-check a quote, not to predict it. A hauler serving a busy metro with a distant landfill and a quote that includes generous tonnage may come in high and still be good value.

How to read a quote

A good quote names the container size, the base rental period, the daily rate after that, the tonnage allowance, the overage rate per ton, any fees for specific items such as mattresses or appliances, and who handles any permit. If one of those is missing, ask. Comparing two quotes only makes sense when they cover the same things.

Why we do not publish our own rates

We are a referral service. The independent hauler that takes your job sets the final price based on the size, the material, your address and their own disposal costs. Publishing a single rate would be misleading. Instead, we show where typical prices sit, and the hauler gives you the real number on the phone.

FAQ

What people ask before they book

Are these your prices?

No. They are typical market ranges from Fixr's cost data (2025), checked in October 2026. Southeast Dumpster Rentals is a referral service; the independent hauler that takes your job sets the price.

Why might my quote sit at the top of a range?

Larger metros and higher landfill fees push prices toward the upper end. So do heavy materials, long rentals, hard access and street placements that need a permit.

Do you list prices for each city?

No. City-by-city numbers go stale quickly and vary between haulers. Call (678) 916-9637 for a quote at your address.

What is the most common surprise on the final bill?

Overweight charges. A container filled with dense material such as concrete, shingles or wet plaster can exceed its tonnage allowance even when it does not look full.

Is a 15 yard container cheaper than a 20?

Usually, but our price source does not publish a 15 yard range, so we do not quote one. Ask the hauler.
